UTI CFM has installed state-of-the-art technologies at Sibiu Airport that are found at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

Sibiu is the third airport in Romania where passengers will be able to pass through security without removing their laptops and liquid containers from their cabin baggage.

UTI CONSTRUCTION AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT, member company of TIU Group, in a joint venture with CON-A and Bog’Art, has completed the Sibiu International Airport Expansion and Modernization project.

600 pieces of luggage per hour

A complex system of conveyor belts, X-ray scanners, scales and tag reading systems is in operation at Sibiu Airport to handle hold baggage. The X-ray scanning equipment meets the highest standard in the field and is equipped with two integrated modules: one for visualisation and dual energy and one for 3D volumetric imaging and reconstruction (CT). They facilitate the automatic sorting of baggage and help security operators to intervene promptly in case of identification of potentially dangerous substances.

Using the new integrated conveyor belt system for hold baggage, up to 600 pieces of baggage can be scanned per hour.

State-of-the-art X-ray scanning equipment has been installed to check cabin baggage, using computer tomography and high-performance algorithms to produce the clearest 3D images of the objects inside. This will allow passengers to pass through security without removing their laptop, phone, or liquid containers from their luggage.

Sibiu is the third airport in Romania, after Cluj and Timisoara, to benefit from such technologies.

The terminal and adjacent areas are monitored with high-resolution video cameras, and the Artificial Intelligence-based video analysis system, provided by UTI CFM partner Ipsotek, allows automatic detection of security incidents based on video image processing, as well as alerting operators. This will automatically signal abandoned luggage or vehicles, unauthorised entry of vehicles into restricted areas, etc.

Automatic border crossing control system similar to the one at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris

A very important system, Automated Border Control (ABC), provides automatic border crossing control on both arrivals and departures without the need for manual control, simply by the passenger presenting their passport and recognising their facial features.

It is also designed to detect persons on the watch lists of state institutions with law enforcement and anti-terrorist protection responsibilities.

Such a system is in place at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris and other airports in Europe.

Sibiu Airport is the second airport in Romania where an ABC system has been installed, after Henri Coanda International Airport (Otopeni).
