UTI CONSTRUCTION AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT, member company of the TIU Group, has participated in the modernization of the electrical installations related to the hydromechanical and hydraulic equipment for the spillway dam of the Iron Gates I Hydropower Plant. The project, whose beneficiary is the Hydropower Plant Energy Production Company “HIDROELECTRICA SA”, was awarded to our company in association with DSD NOELL GmbH. The value of the project amounted to approximately 11.4 million euro.
The spillway dam on which the specialists of the two companies carried out the works is part of the Iron Gates I Hydropower and Navigation System and consists of seven openings equipped with double hooked rams, driven by independent servomotors, and is designed to discharge large waters (in the case of floods) or ice that forms during the winter period.

Both the hydraulic installations for operating the rams that equipped this spillway dam and the electrical and automation installations were subject to major mechanical and corrosive wear and tear, having been in service for over 50 years.
With the turnkey modernization works carried out by UTI CFM, HIDROELECTRICA and the citizens have multiple benefits such as increased operational safety of the equipment and minimization of the dam’s downtime, reduction of the dam’s cost of operation, and a reduction in the dam’s cost of maintenance.
